Adult Awards and Volunteer Recognition

Girl Scout Volunteers are the heart and soul of the Girl Scout Movement. Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia deeply values its volunteers for their contributions in developing girl leaders. Girl Scouts of the USA established a formal recognition process to recognize registered adult members who have made outstanding contributions that are beyond the expectations of their position.

Volunteers and staff across all departments and functions within the Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia are encouraged to participate in the nomination of adults for these formal awards.

Below is a summary of the GSUSA Adult Awards and recognitions. Detailed information of each may be found by clicking on the name of each award. Nomination forms and Endorsement Letters may be found in each summary and also in the Forms section of this website.

The Adult Awards Committee will meet in April to review the nominations packets. In some cases, additional information is sought. In those cases, the nominator will be contacted and have 5 business days to submit the additional information requested.

Please note that as of 2014, GSCV staff are no longer eligible for these awards.

April 8, 2016 is the deadline for nomination packets for ALL of the Awards listed below.

Thanks Badge II

The Thanks Badge II honors a previous Thanks Badge award recipient who has continued to provide exemplary service in a leadership role, resulting in a measurable impact that benefits the entire Girl Scout Movement.

Volunteer of Excellence

The Volunteer of Excellence award recognizes those volunteers who have contributed outstanding service while partnering directly with girls in any Pathway to implement the GSLE through use of the National Program Portfolio or who have contributed outstanding service in support of GSCV’s mission-delivery to girl and adult members. This award replaces the Outstanding Volunteer and Outstanding Leader pins.

Years of Service Pin

The Volunteer Years of Service Pin recognizes an adult member registered with GSUSA for her/his years of active volunteer service at five-year intervals (5, 10, 15, etc.).  This pin differs from the numeral guard in that it represents the number of years an adult volunteer has actively provided service.

Numeral Guard Pin

The Membership Numeral Guard Pin recognizes years of membership (both girl and adult years) with GSUSA at five-year intervals (5, 10, 15, etc.).

This certificate recognizes individuals, businesses, organizations, churches, schools, or other agencies who have supported Girl Scouting over the past year.
